Repositioning a satellite connectivity business for the maritime, water, and fisheries sectors

The Challenge

Ground Control needed to change direction – the business moved to focus on maritime, shipping and water, with fisheries added as a fourth target at the outset, with its RockFLEET product a natural fit for those verticals. Each one has its own trade media, its own language and its own set of problems.

Ground Control needed to be visible and credible in front of these specfic set of readers, and it needed to happen quickly.

The Solution

We rebuilt the PR plan around those sectors and nothing else. Every story, every pitch and every target publication was chosen on the basis of whether it reached a maritime, shipping, fisheries or water audience.

The content itself started from the problems those industries are dealing with rather than from anything Ground Control wanted to say about itself. GNSS jamming and spoofing. Remote water level monitoring in locations with no terrestrial coverage. Vessel and fishing fleet tracking. We wrote thought leadership that took each of those issues seriously and then showed where Ground Control’s technology fits.

We also went straight to Ground Control’s own engineers and specialists. They see problems in the field long before those problems reach the trade press, and that knowledge was going unused. We drew those observations out of them and turned them into commentary and opinion pieces, then placed them with sector journalists while the issues were live.

That combination, planned thought leadership alongside reactive expert comment, gave us something to offer editors almost every week rather than in occasional bursts.

The Results

32 pieces of coverage in just over three months, across shipping, water, fisheries and maritime trade media.

Coverage across both EU and US markets, giving Ground Control reach in the two regions that matter most to its commercial plans.

Recognition as a problem solver, specifically on GNSS jamming, fishing fleet tracking and remote water level monitoring, rather than as a generic connectivity supplier.

Inbound enquiries from the coverage, feeding directly into the sales pipeline.

The last point is the one that is particularly impactful. Awareness is useful, but Ground Control ended the programme with buyers coming to them, in sectors where they had been largely unknown three months earlier.
